CA-18 Mustang
RAAF No: A68-110
The CA-18 started production in Australia in 1944 and 7 years later
in August 1951, the last Australian built Mustang was delivered.
All marks of the CA-18 were based on the North American P-51D Mustang but
with minor modifications. The Mustang was delivered too late into RAAF
service to see any Pacific theater fighting, however, American P-51D and
K models built in Australia from imported kits and a couple CA-18's
eventually saw combat with 77 sqn in 1950 flying out of Iwakuni in Japan
on what was to become the Korean War.
